our own therapeutics
Fecal microbiota transplants (FMTs) have been shown to restore diversity in the gut microbiome. Current FMTs depend upon the availability of donor stools or commercial products. We aim to create our own pill that includes constituents of the healthy gut microbiome that can be used in place of donor-derived stool. With our knowledge of the gut microbiome, we hypothesize that we can create a therapeutic that is easily deliverable to patients and can improve gut health for patients suffering from recurrent gastrointestinal and/or genitoruinary infections caused by multi-drug resistant organisms. We have already met with an advisor to connect us with a small company to produce our own therapeutics and are looking for funding to take the next steps for this process.

Outreach program
Our goal is to create a metropolitan Atlanta microbiome outreach program to improve awareness of the microbiome in health and improve treatment options for local patients suffering from Clostridium difficile infection (CDI). In particular, we aim to develop a comprehensive value assessment framework that can be used to assess care for CDI using newly approved gut microbiome therapeutics and ensure that all patients, regardless of payor source, receive the best microbiome therapeutics. This will require equipping providers with the tools and knowledge they need to provide the highest quality resources to patients with CDI.
